Prerequisites

Certificate of Anatomical Acupuncture (CAA) 100 study hours

Each course listed below includes a home study unit and a 3-day onsite session, representing a total of 50 hours of study. Registration deadline is 6 weeks prior to each onsite session to allow time to complete the required home study unit.
 
AA1: Foundations of Anatomical Acupuncture (View the Schedule and Fees by Location)

What You Will Learn

  • Introduction to basic concepts of Anatomical and Classical Acupuncture
  • Hazards, complications, precautions for safe needling
  • How to locate acupoints using superficial anatomy
  • Specific needling techniques and practical clinical applications for 21 important acupoints
  • Introduction to Classical Acupuncture and meridians
  • Case treatment plans and longterm management
  • Competency: participants may start simple treatment of acute and chronic pain problems (with an emphasis on musculoskeletal pain) within their scopes of practice.

AA2: Clinical Applications in Anatomical Acupuncture  (View the Schedule and Fees by Location) 

AA1 is a prerequisite. Membership in AFCI is a requirement to continue AFCI courses.  

What You Will Learn

  •  Description/Location/Needling of major points on head, neck, upper limbs, and back, abdomen, and lower limbs.
  • Integration of acupoints into treatment of facial pain, frozen shoulder, upper extremity pain, tennis/golfer’s elbow, back, hip, knee, ankle and foot pain.
  • The use of electroacupuncture and TENS for treatment.
  • Management of chronic and cancer pain
  • Competency: participants will be capable of using acupuncture (needling and electrotherapy) in the management of several more conditions, including: facial pain and headaches, myofascial pain syndrome and neuropathy.


Advanced Certificate of Acupuncture (ACA) 100 hours

Each course listed below includes a home study unit and a 3-day onsite session, representing a total of 50 hours of study. Registration deadline is 6 weeks prior to the onsite session to allow time to complete the home study unit.
 
Adv1: Anatomical Acupuncture for Neurological Conditions (2B/3B) (View the Schedule and Fees by Location)
AA1 and AA2 (or Part 1 and 2A/3A) are prerequisites.

What You Will Learn

  •  Location and needling techniques of advanced acupoints
  • Integration of acupoints into the treatments of neurological conditions; such as stroke, Alzheimer's, cerebral palsy, closed head injury, Parkinson's disease, Bell's Palsy, facial tic, deafness.
  • Management of disorders; such as thoracic outlet syndrome, carpal tunnel syndrome and deQuervain's syndrome.
  • Integraion of acupoints into treatment of autonomic nervous system dysfunctions, such as Reflex Sympathetic Dystrophy, and Complex Regional Pain syndromes such as Raynaud's disorder, and neuropathic pain.
  • Competency: Participants will be capable of using acupuncture as an adjunct therapy in the management of central nervous system disorders, autonomic nervous system dysfunctions, pain syndromes and some neurological conditions within their scopes of practice. 

 Adv2: Basics of Classical Acupuncture (BTAOM) (View the Schedule and Fees by Location)

Adv1(2B/3B) is a prerequisite.

What You Will Learn

  • Basic diagnosis
  • Five Elements theory
  • Yin/Yang balance in case management
  • Integration of principles of the Zang-Fu Organs
  • Eight Patterns
  • Tongue and Pulse Diagnosis, moxibustion and needling techniques.
  • Competency: Participants will be capable of making a basic diagnosis using "Traditional Chinese Medicine" (TCM) principles.

Classical Acupuncture

CA1: Classical Acupuncture for Pain Management (JLEP) (View the Schedule and Fees by Location)

Adv1 and Adv2 (or 2B/3B and BTAOM) are prerequisites.  Acupuncture point locations are not taught in these courses, and must have been learned through the above prerequisite AFCI courses or other approved training. 

What You Will Learn

  • Management of both acute and chronic musculoskeletal injuries
  • This course will provide valuable insights into the treatment of common orthopedic and sports injuries with acupuncture.
  • Competency: Understanding and use of Meridian Energetics for the treatment of pain due to orthopedic, sports and musculoskeletal conditions. Introduces the Tendino-Muscular Meridians, Divergent Meridians, Luo Channels and Eight Extraordinary Vessels.

CA2: Classical Acupuncture for Inflammatory and Organ Pathologies (PTZF/BSFD)  (View the Schedule and Fees by Location)

Adv1 and Adv2 (or 2B/3B and BTAOM) are prerequisites.  Acupuncture point locations are not taught in these courses, and must have been learned through the above prerequisite AFCI courses or other approved training. 

What You Will Learn

  • Introduction to TCM etiopathology of the Zang-Fu Organs
  • Treatment of disorders of the Respiratory (asthma, rhinitis), and Digestive (chronic diarrhea, constipation, colitis, Crohn's disease, irritable bowel) and the Genitourinary (PMS, dysmenorrhea, impotence, infertility, prostatic disorders) systems. 
  • Competency: Graduates will be capable of using the TCM paradign for the assessment and treatment of internal medical disorders within their scopes of practice.
