Governance
Acupuncture Foundation of Canada Institute (“AFCI”) is a federally incorporated not-for-profit corporation with members from across Canada, the USA, and abroad. Its main sources of funding are acupuncture education courses and membership fees. AFCI is governed by an elected Board of Directors. The principle responsibilities of the AFCI Board include contributing to AFCI policy and leadership decisions, ensuring AFCI’s due diligence as a provider of credentialed educational services and guiding AFCI management practices. As the Board of a membership organization, AFCI directors also play critical communications and liaison roles with members through formally established and operating chapters and less formal member groups that may play a supportive role in the organization of AFCI courses in their locality, or may from time to time organize AFCI projects or initiatives of specific interest and importance to their area.
The AFCI Board is supported by an Executive Committee, a Nominating Committee and an Education Committee. The Education Committee is a standing committee of the Board which advises and makes recommendations to the Executive Committee and Board of Directors on policies regarding the education program and issues relating to education. The Executive Committee may act on behalf of the board between regularly scheduled Board meetings. The Board may also establish additional committees such as the Ad Hoc Committee on Restructuring, and also from time-to-time select task groups or project steering committees.
Officers of the AFCI Board are the President, who chairs the Board; President-Elect; Chair of the Education Committee; Treasurer; Secretary and any such other officers as the Board of Directors may determine.
